The other day
To my dismay
I saw a terrible sight.
~
He darted to and fro
as the cars went to go
avoiding them with all of his might.
~
I sat and watched
as he pulled and pulled
i would have helped him
if i could.
~
Tears came to my eyes
as I watched him try
to move his fellow mate
knowing I could relate
~
His little tail was twitching
and I found myself wishing
I could turn back time
for that little prairie dog
~
Risking his own little life
to move his dead wife
Out of the road
It was a heavy load
~
For him and for me
because I could truly see
The love and the pain
~
If only more of us
had that loving trust
Even had the pain
~
Than maybe, just maybe
More in life
We would gain
~

A sad story… and a testament to love personified.
nicely written, sad but brave.
Tore at my heart strings 😦 so sad but very well written. I like this poem very much 🙂
Ahh!!! What a poignant story… and the courage and caring the little fellow showed..

How sad, I hope he made it off the road safely.
sad, well put, blessings.
heartbreaking! I can relate, I hate seeing animals killed in the road!
This is heartbreaking… I see the same scene played out time and again here in Tucson.
what a thrill, well told story in a poem.
Happy Sunday.
It is so sad to see something like that and not be in a position to help, too, isn’t it!
Sad.
