The other day
To my dismay
I saw a terrible sight.
~
He darted to and fro
as the cars went to go
avoiding them with all of his might.
~
I sat and watched
as he pulled and pulled
i would have helped him
if i could.
~
Tears came to my eyes
as I watched him try
to move his fellow mate
knowing I could relate
~
His little tail was twitching
and I found myself wishing
I could turn back time
for that little prairie dog
~
Risking his own little life
to move his dead wife
Out of the road
It was a heavy load
~
For him and for me
because I could truly see
The love and the pain
~
If only more of us
had that loving trust
Even had the pain
~
Than maybe, just maybe
More in life
We would gain
~

This made me tear up, animals have a way of getting to me. So touching and so sad
A wonderful life lesson.Well done 🙂
Lovely lesson from a praire dog and a warning from the cars.
A nice poem, Luna. Thank you! Happy Potluck.
I cry every time I see roadkill. I know how you feel; I once saw a documentary on Meerkats mourning the death of their sister.
some beautifully purged pain.
Sad that most of us are like the cars; in a hurry to go somewhere, unseeing, unknowing, uncaring.
A magnificently sad story; they are cute little buggers aren’t they?
Brought tears to my eyes.
Hey, I didn’t know you were in Tucson…HOWDY NEIGHBOR!
Yes, I have seen this kind of thing out on the roads–breaks your heart, but it shows us humans that love and devotion exist not only in our world, but in theirs as well.
A wonderful but sad story, told very well.
