Thank you baby for this wonderful poem and pics. I miss you too.
Inhale this college Town
By Ashley L.

Wake up
turn over
then look out the window.
~
It all seems so normal now,
so normal to wake up and turn and look.
~
So normal to get up and see.
So normal to stumble to the kitchen for coffee or tea.
Inhale.
Breathe in this college town.
~
The silent sounds still everything.
No one is up in this part of the world.
No one is up in this college town.
~
But it’s normal now.
So normal to stumble, tea, hear nothing.
~
Wake, turn, window,
get up, see, tea, hear nothing.
Just breathe. And wait.
~
Sit. Inhale.
Just sit and wait while hearing nothing
wait for those moments
when small breezes bring a whiff of home through this college town. .
~
So normal now.
Sit, wait, inhale, hear nothing.
~
And only in these moments
Does it hit your nose
those small breezes that bring a whiff of home through this college town.
~
The humidity of desert storms
Mother’s vanilla that sweep off her hair
and the air that’s warm and not sweet.
~
Sit and inhale.
Sit and inhale.
For those moments of wonderful smells.
~
Sit, smell, wait.
Wait for those moments of home
that might eventually waft through this college town

Lovely! Scents always evoke the strongest memories. A fleeting whiff of cologne from an already departed stranger, and I’m sixteen years old again making out with my boyfriend.
This poem has such a nice meditative quality to it. Took me right back to college.
Very delightful! I really like tying memory and scents together. A wonderful way to evoke the past. 🙂
Few see college moments in early light,
Some students stay late into the night,
Talking, studying, sharing world views,
But early birds read the morning news,
And drink tea or coffee and wait for smells,
That sweep in and leave aromatic trails,
Of sweet memories from home that drift into town,
While students wait for tea, and a bagel to brown.
Delightful…brings back many sweet memories. Thanks! hugs, pat
So reminiscent… hearing nothing, smelling with deep inhales, waiting for the world to rise in its college dance. Beautiful write.
Very beautiful and well written. excellent
Hello.
I read this and reread it and both times I had a lump in my throat.
Luna, your daughter writes beautifully. She’s obviously settled in now, but still misses you and all the familiarity of home. A beautiful write.
Wishing you both well.
what a lovely tribe, both of you are blessed.
like mother, like daughter, you rock.
bless you, such a lovely girl in your life.
keep shining.
